14 Sep Faster software testing? Look no further than RPA
The use of test automation is now commonplace. As more and more applications are web applications, tools such as Selenium have quickly become some of the best known testing automation tools. What testers hardly ever think about beforehand is that many web applications use other systems in the backend. For example, when retrieving data from ERP or CRM, there is an integration with Excel and sometimes even PDF sheets or Word files. Then you get stuck with a testing automation tool that you still have to start manually.
Testing faster with DevOps
It was not such an inefficient decision in a time when applications remained unchanged for a long time. It has also been proven annoying to have to do certain regression tests manually. But, after all, you used to be off the hook for re-testing for a longer time. By the introduction of Agile and DevOps at faster speeds, the same regression tests are completed once. In addition, DevOps also requires faster test procedures. After all, you do not want the tests to bottleneck in the agile process.
RPA picks up where other test automation can’t
Fortunately there is a solution: Robotic Process Automation (RPA). RPA can be used where ordinary test automation stops, such as in retrieving testing applications and data from other systems. This is a process that meets the criteria for a successful RPA business case;
- Many applications are involved
- Testing is relatively ‘monotonous’ work that is done by already-busy employees
- The chance of error is great but the work is dull (prone to loss of concentration)
- The processes are easy “if-then” rules to catch and convert into code
